What is Slip Coefficient Testing?
Slip coefficient testing is a crucial assessment that determines the slip resistance of surfaces, offering awareness into their safety levels. It involves measuring the frictional characteristics between footwear and the tested surface under specific conditions. The slip coefficient is a numeric representation of this friction, indicating how resistant a surface is to slipping. This testing process plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of environments by identifying potential slipping hazards and guiding measures to enhance traction. At FSM, our slip coefficient testing services provide you with specific data to create spaces that make safety a top priority.

BE PROACTIVE. JOIN THE MOVEMENT.
The National Safety Council said, “slips, trips, and falls are a major cause of preventable injuries and deaths in the workplace; only motor vehicle incidents cause more worker fatalities.”
The Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) published a document for safety stating, “slips, trips and falls cause nearly 700 fatalities per year and many more injurious accidents in the work place according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.”
The Center for Disease Control warned, “work related slip, trip, and fall incidents can frequently result in serious disabling injuries that impact a healthcare employee’s ability to do his or her job often resulting in lost workdays, reduced productivity, expensive worker compensation claims, and diminished ability to care for patients.”
Most slip and fall accidents lead to lawsuits under the purview of premises liability law. While every state has unique facets to their premises liability laws, this law generally applies to property owners. Property owners have a legal duty to ensure their grounds and facilities are not hazardous to visitors to the property. If a hazard exists, the property owner must take adequate steps to prevent the conditions from causing injuries. The property owner should warn any visitors of the hazard.
If you have public accessways then slip testing is for you. Our services will benefit the following facilities:
· Office Buildings
· Industrial Buildings
· Government Buildings
· Apartment Communities
· Retail Stores
· Malls and Shopping Centers
· Grocers
· Restaurants
· Hospitals
· Schools
· Casinos
· Hotels
· Airports
· Pool Decking
· Ramps
We work with all facilities to help clarify the uncertain question, “Are my floors slip resistant?” The ONLY way to know your floors current condition is to slip test and start building your historical data NOW. We have helped many clients answer this question and built slip test programs to tip the punitive scale in their favor.
There are several variables we look at when developing your slip test program, which include, but not limited to:
· Environmental Exposures
· Pedestrian Gait Dynamics
· Injury History
· Traffic Patterns
· Visual Distractions and Perceptions
· Location of Entrances, Exists and Walkways
All properties are not created equal and aren’t built the same, so why should your slip test program be any different? By taking into account all variables and listening to your needs we will develop a unique program to help mitigate your risk of slip and fall injuries.
Our programs are prepared in accordance with ASTM F1694-14, “Standard Guide for Composing Walkway Surface Investigation, Evaluation, and Incident Report Forms for Slips, Stumbles, Trips, and Falls,” fully compliant through ASTM F2048-00, “Standard Practice for Reporting Slip Resistance Test Results" and are acceptable in the court of law.
